Sheila O'Connor - I'll Be 14 All My Life

Sheila O'Connor

My name is Sheila O'Connor, I played in La Boum, I was Penelope, Vic's best friend.

What is the price to pay when a role like this becomes your defining characteristic? How can you imagine a career in film when, from the age of 14, you are condemned to become "best friend forever"? Is this reservoir of goodwill a poisoned chalice or a lifelong protection?

In 2023, supported by Philippe Calvario, Sheila O'Connor wrote her first play , J'aurai 14 ans toute ma vie .

Sheila O'Connor is among the recipients of the SACD Theatre fund .

Sheila O'Connor - I'll Be 14 All My Life

  • After four decades, what would you say if people constantly stopped you in the street? As if you were one of their old acquaintances, or even their closest friend… very close. Some would be flattered in this world where solitude is a daily occurrence! And these people are very kind to me, for the simple reason that they've let me into their lives for many years. I don't know them, but their eyes light up when they talk to me, so I listen, as if I were their best friend. "I haven't changed," they tell me! Yes, it's true that I've had the same face since I was born! But I've gotten wrinkles, I've been through life, I've faced some challenges! What people see in me, it seems, is simply my zest for life and my smile, which takes them back to a time when everything was joyful and when we enjoyed freedom and a delightful utopia: the famous 80s. And to celebrate this era which attracts even the youngest, I decided to write this play "I'll Be 14 All My Life".

This text was awarded the Adami Déclencheur grant.

I Will Be 14 Years Old All My Life nominated for the Independent Theatre Laurels 2025 and won the Special Jury Prize.
