Hervé Gaillet - Why not Pierre Benoit?
Writer, novelist, poet, journalist and academician (1931) with a whimsical and picturesque personality, Pierre Benoit (1886 – 1962) enchanted millions of readers from the early 1920s to the late 1950s, while also delighting the society press of the interwar period.
However, he did happen (fictitiously and under the identity of Deputy Inspector Ferdinand Fraisse, of the 1st Special Brigade) to be called upon to solve some delicate criminal cases or to unravel seemingly unsolvable enigmas.
"Why not Pierre Benoit?" ask themselves, successively, an old comrade from the Latin Quarter, a hesitant investigating judge, a perplexed gendarmerie commander, a bewildered museum director and, of course, his friend Commissioner Fortalembert, always happy with the often decisive contribution of this facetious writer who never really takes himself seriously.
